Last Days is a relevant point of discussion for this subreddit for a couple of reasons, namely: I really recommend it for adventurous or curious readers. I don’t want to say more about the plot as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but the book is intriguing, unsettling, and disturbing. The belief and practice is inspired by a literal interpretation of Matthew 5:29–30:Īnd if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee…And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee This sect/cult believes that amputating body parts brings one closer to God, and having more parts of one’s body removed creates a greater closeness to divinity and increased authority/standing in the faith. Kline, an ex-detective suffering with depression following the amputation of his hand by ‘the gentleman with the cleaver’, is ordered to solve a murder which took place within a compound run by a strange sect/cult of Christianity. (In addition there was a recent thread about the decline of the novel, so this seems timely.) A brief description of the plot is as follows: I wanted to recommend it here because both the book itself and the life of Evenson the person overlap with various interests of Sam Harris (and hence this subreddit). I’ve just finished reading an excellent short novel, which is Last Days by Brian Evenson. So, what are the most horrific celebrity deaths? Keep reading. Some however, are a result of terrible accidents, which are in no way related to the perceived celebrity lifestyle. Some new age celebrities still engage in such lifestyles, no wonder you will read about deaths caused by drunk driving, and dangerous sexual practices. BIZARRE DEATHS: FAMOUS INDIVIDUALS AND OTHERS WHO DIED IN HORRIFIC CIRCUMSTANCES McKechnie, BH, McKechnie, VHM on. Celebrity figures of the 1960s and 70s, for example, capitalized their lives on sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle of that era. Some of these deaths were cancer-related, while others were a result of the ‘ celebrity curse’, at least according to a theory discussed in the Telegraph. 2016, for example, was universally declared the year of celebrity deaths, after more celebrities died compared to the previous years. BIZARRE DEATHS: FAMOUS INDIVIDUALS AND OTHERS WHO DIED IN HORRIFIC CIRCUMSTANCES McKechnie, BH, McKechnie, VHM on. Since the days of silent movies, Hollywood has experienced terrible and shocking deaths, cutting across ages. That is why, even the most admired in the society, like celebrities, as you will notice, have encountered horrific deaths. What’s even clearer is that death never respects your caliber or position in the society. Though some of these deaths are on the extreme, cases of explosions after a car accident, gun accidents, accidental death on set, and drug overdose don’t seem farfetched. Perfect Conclusion to a Captivating Seriesįrom the moment Prince Amjad was met in previous books of the Pride of Zohayd series, his story was one I highly anticipated. All I can hope now is that I get glimpses of him again in the coming trilogy of his half-brothers.Īmjad (and Maram and the rest of To Touch a Sheikh) are a blast! I've re-read him twice already, and will do so again and again I'm sure. Oh, I so wished he was the hero of a continuing series, so I'd have more of his snarky yumminess. Have I mentioned the guy is FUN? Damaged and cynical as hell and off-limits and pure unadulterated fun with it all. I loved the two previous books in the Zohayd trilogy, but the highlights in those for me were when Amjad made an appearance. The bargaining they did across the bed before he finally succumbed and 'devoured' her, was one for the records. And when it came to the sex scenes, oh my! Those were some of the hottest, most emotional smut I've enjoyed. Their 'verbal duels' as the author called them were the best I've ever read. He's so thoroughly and delightfully snarky, every word out of his mouth had me giggling. Amjad is the most fun hero I've ever read. It flows along nicely- not too fast or slow. So, the question is, should you read this book? If you appreciate a new angle on the characters we’ve met before, absolutely. She’s wise and graceful in the end, when she’s finally accepted the path that is before her, unexpected as it is. Brave in spite of her fear, bold in standing up for those who had no voice, humble in her accomplishments, and open to the lessons in hardships she experienced. Tiger Lily is the girl I want to be when I grow up. She takes us with her as she learns what it is to love her people as a leader. We get to experience her adventures from just before she meets Peter in the belly of a pirate ship to the end of the book (but not the story, hopefully!!) as a wise young woman in her tribe. Tiger Lily’s story as told by Crissi is deep and rich. It takes us to Neverland through the eyes of Tiger Lily, a young native girl who is mentioned in the original stories, but not much is known about her. She captured the voices of the characters so well, I felt like I was a pixie on the wall watching the whole time. Barrie’s Peter & Wendy.Ĭrissi’s latest book, “Loving the Wind” is a fun new dimension to the Peter Pan stories we know and love. If you’re a Kindle reader, Loving the Wind is now available for pre-orders! Even better, it’s temporarily discounted to 99 cents! Read the untold story of Tiger Lily and how she met Peter Pan in this fun prequel to J.M. This continues to be a twisty, thrilling, and sexy story brought to life again by the amazing talents of Sebastian York, and Brooke Daniels. I loved the direction this story took, and watching the push/pull and sexual tension between Aleksandra and Kirill had me wondering how they would ever find their way back to each other. The more secrets that are uncovered, exposes the real danger they are all in. The excitement of Kirill's family and family business along with the dangers that come with that was riveting. We see her battle to prove her loyalty to Kirill, and his struggle with the thought of her betrayal. She put her life on the line to save him, not only from him but by her family as well. Wow, this second book in the Monster Trilogy was so emotional and thrilling! Aleksandra and Kirill's story picked right up after the stunning ending in book one, and hit the ground running! Aleksandra was heartbroken over Kirill being hurt because of her. |
